Seeing Past the Future

Foresight is not about predicting the future, it's about minimizing surprise.

Using Futurecasting to Stay Ahead

Let’s face it, the world is chaotic and the world of business is even more so. Therefore, the question continues to arise; How do we sort through the chaos and execute our plans on a high level? Well, that’s easy (not really). You have to predict the future. The latest tactic we’re going to teach you about in business growth is futurecasting and it doesn’t matter if you have an established business or you’re just starting your entrepreneurial journey, learning futurecasting can revolutionize your approach to business.

Disclaimer: This Is Not Fortunetelling

Futurecasting is not about making crystal-clear predictions of the future; it’s about the ability to anticipate trends, challenges, and opportunities or, in sports terms, see the play before it happens. Doing this puts you and your company in a great position to win the game and be successful.

The Significance of Futurecasting

We say it all the time; Business is an ever-changing landscape and if you’re not prepared, you and your company will be drowned by the challenges that come. That’s why future casting is so important. It equips you with the knowledge to make the right plays and take advantage of emerging opportunities.

Become a Futurecaster

  1. Stay Informed: Rule #1 is always to keep your ear to the streets. Stay on top of the latest trends and happenings in your industry. Also, take account of the things happening in the world. For example, the cost of living in the U.S is constantly going up and companies are being called out more and more for the wages they provide employees. Although this may not have affected your company yet, you should be smart and get ahead of it before it becomes a problem.
  2. Scenario Planning: Get with your team and discuss different scenarios and multiple solutions to those scenarios. Bounce ideas off each other and don’t be afraid to throw out weird ideas or strategies. What would your company do if a new law required it to release 50% of its workforce? What if a new A.I made your services or products obsolete? Go over everything and talk through it.
  3. Networking: Create and grow relationships with others. When it comes to futurecasting sometimes it’s not about what you know but about who you know. Try to attend conferences and collaborate with other professionals from various niches as much as possible.
  4. Study Film: Use the power of data. There’s a reason that high-level athletes go over hours and hours of film. This data helps them understand different offenses, defenses and certain tendencies so they can make the right plays. So, take an hour or two out of your week to collect and study information to make informed business decisions.
  5. Create An Innovative Culture: The final step to becoming a futurecaster and great playmaker is creating a culture of innovation and creativity. Encourage your team to brainstorm, be resourceful and think outside the box. The best way to predict the future is to make sure you’re at the forefront of the journey to get there.

Legend’s Closing Note

Futurecasting is a tactic that helps prepare your company, community, or culture for the possible challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Mastery of it, like most things, is very difficult and damn near impossible to achieve but if you make the necessary efforts to learn just a little bit of it, you’ll be in a better position to ensure your team is successful.
